hi

i get mail from PJ:

Hey

After weeks of poking around to port Emscher to Lazarus I've come to the conclusion that it's going to require a total rewrite in Lazarus based on the original source. This however means that certain components have to be changed, or at worst left out. We can work on porting libraries such as the Theme Manager and tplockbox to Lazarus, but the RSA encryption is a different story.

The developers of RSA only allows you to download compiled units for the library, a file with a *.dcu extension. These files CAN'T be ported to Lazarus. If we want to obtain the actual *.pas source code then we have to buy it, then we can try to port it.

Personally I think that we should continue to work on Emscher in Delphi while we do the Lazarus rewrite. That way we keep the program up to date and slowly work our ways to total Lazarus domination.

I'll start on the rewrite as soon as possible. I'll try to find replacement libraries where needed on the web.

PLEASE REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!

P.S. I'm busy changing my e-mail address everywhere - My new address is p.pretorius@pjpdev.co.za. My website is http://www.pjpdev.co.za and I'm planning on adding an Emscher page there.

Thank You

After weeks of analyzing methods of porting Emscher to Lazarus, I've finally come to a conclusion. So development on the Lazarus port starts immediately. I'll post my progress frequently so that everyone knows what the latest status on the project is.

Hey

It's coming on great, I've finished with reimplementing the GUI. So it will look the same. Just say if you want a different look and feel, and I'll do it. The next step is getting the needed things in line and making an in depth analysis of the Delphi source. This means basically running it in debug mode and squashing the F7 button frequently. --- Line by line execution ---

Enjoy your day

GUI recreation is complete, only a few modifications needed. But I'll leave that for later. For now it's the long inevitable task of analysing the source in depth... Squashing F7 till late night. I need to understand what happens when and how. From there I can take it to the next level... Booya!

Oh yeah... Please note that I'm busy with a full redesign of my site http://www.pjpdev.co.za and I'm gonna take two nights a week to work on it. The remaining time will be spent on the development of Emscher.

OpenSSL looks like the best option for encryption. So I'm gonna study up on it a bit and implement it into Emscher to replace RSA.

If anyone has a better idea, please feel free to tell me.

Thank You
